State Rep. Ron Robinson (R-Utica) today highlighted Macomb County’s support for the House Republican Road funding plan following county officials’ testimony in Wednesday’s local hearing of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation.

Robinson advocated for the committee hearing to be held in Macomb County to give state lawmakers the opportunity to hear from the communities who are affected by the deteriorating roads.

“I wanted Lansing to hear directly from the people and local leaders who drive these roads every day,” said Robinson. “Bringing the committee to Macomb helps ensure that the residents’ voices are the center of discussion.”

Macomb County officials presented data showing that, under current state funding formulas, the region sees a zero net gain in overall road quality, meaning roads deteriorate as quickly as they are repaired. However, if the new House Republican Road funding plan is adopted, the county estimated that many of its roads would shift from poor to good condition over time.

“Macomb County’s testimony makes it clear that the current system is failing our communities,” said Robinson. “The plan I voted for brings meaningful change and improves the roads we use every day. It gives our local communities the tools they need to actually make a difference with the long list of deteriorating roads, and that’s exactly what taxpayers here have been asking for.”

The House Republican plan, House Bills 4180-4187, will dedicate an additional $3.1 billion to fixing our crumbling infrastructure every year without raising taxes.
