Republicans win, 23-16!
The third annual Legislative Softball Game for Charity was a home run success as legislators, lobbyists, and media members took the field at Michigan State’s Secchia Stadium in East Lansing to raise $26,000 in pledged sponsorship for Leader Dogs for the Blind, a nonprofit that helps people who are blind or visually impaired with lifelong skills for safe and independent daily travel.
Reps. Tom Kunse (R-Clare) and Alabas Farhat (D-Dearborn) co-hosted the event, which brought together members of both parties for an evening of spirited competition and bipartisan camaraderie.
The ceremonial first pitch was thrown by Stephan Moran with K9 Ambassador Vader and caught by Rep. Jay DeBoyer.
“It was wonderful seeing everyone get together to support an amazing organization,” said Kunse. “They do incredible work helping individuals gain independence, mobility, and confidence through their guide dog programs.”
The softball game got off to a rocky start for the Republicans, with the Democrats taking an early lead, but the Republicans recovered and came back strong to clinch the win.
“It was refreshing to put our differences aside and have fun while also supporting a good cause,” said Kunse. “But I won’t lie, it felt pretty good to beat the Democrats!”
Planning is already underway for the fourth annual Legislative Softball Game for Charity, which is expected to take place in Spring 2026.
