“Northeast Michigan businesses are going to be able to keep their doors open as a direct result of the hard-fought solutions we approved today,” said Cavitt, R-Cheboygan. “I recently spoke with the owner of PAC Sanitation out of Onaway. He said he these mandates could’ve caused severe disruptions in trash service. Every other industry operating in our communities would have experienced similar disruptions. The compromise may not be what we dreamed of, but it will stop hiked prices, layoffs, and shutdowns. That’s something we can all get behind.”

“For far too long we’ve seen local officials seem to care more about drug dealers from Mexico or gang members from Venezuela than they do for their own friends and neighbors who follow the law and pay their taxes,” said Cavitt, R-Cheboygan. “Local officials can obviously decide to do whatever they want, but they should know that for every second they refuse to cooperate with federal officials our state government will simultaneously refuse to cooperate with them. These communities are going to have to decide if they truly want to go it alone and whether protecting violent criminals from deportation is really more important than state funding.”

“More transparency will always be a good thing, but more government accountability starts with turning over every stone to ensure our tax dollars are being spent wisely and effectively.”
